Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi is pushing a cost-cutting initiative centered on restructuring state institutions and merging independent bodies, while concurrently seeking to fill nine vacant cabinet seats and finalize amendments to the PMF law.
The plan under consideration involves consolidating separate religious endowment boards and the Hajj Authority into a single ministry, alongside possible mergers of other government entities. In meetings with parliamentary leaders, Al-Zaidi indicated he is prepared to name ministers directly should political parties fail to pass their designated nominees through Parliament.
These consultations follow months of stalemate over key portfolios left unassigned since the administration's partial confirmation in May.
