Iraq’s Reconstruction and Development Parliamentary Bloc announced on Tuesday that it would resume attending parliamentary sessions after Parliament Speaker Haibat Al-Halbousi agreed to refer MP Youssef Al-Kilabi to the Conduct and Discipline Committee.

Bloc leader Bahaa Al-Araji said the decision to end the boycott followed the speaker’s approval to refer Al-Kilabi for legal action over what the bloc described as offensive remarks directed at Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, inside parliament.

The bloc had suspended its participation on Monday, calling for accountability for alleged violations of parliamentary procedures and political conventions. Its return follows the parliament leadership’s response to its demand and the referral of the matter to the relevant disciplinary committee.
