The Al-Sadiqoun Parliamentary Bloc has urged the Council of Representatives to establish a committee to review the Constitution in accordance with Article 142 at the next regular parliamentary session, with a clear and publicly announced timetable for its work.
The bloc said it plans to submit proposals addressing major outstanding constitutional issues, including the quorum required to elect the president, the definition of the largest parliamentary bloc, and constitutional deadlines, as well as the legal implications of exceeding them.
It emphasized the need to safeguard fundamental principles, rights and freedoms from political bargaining, stressing that any amendments affecting these provisions must comply with the strict requirements stipulated in Article 126 of the Constitution.
The bloc also called for expanded consultations involving all parliamentary factions and constitutional law specialists, noting that the success and durability of any constitutional amendment depend on achieving broad national consensus and securing acceptance among Iraqis.
