U.S. diplomat Steven Fagin has returned to Baghdad to serve as Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. mission in Iraq, replacing Joshua Harris following the completion of his assignment.

Fagin has extensive diplomatic experience across the region. He previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Yemen and held senior diplomatic positions in Baghdad, including Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission. He also served as U.S. Consul General in Erbil.

The U.S. Embassy said Fagin’s previous experience in Iraq and the region would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between Baghdad and Washington.

In a farewell message marking the end of his tenure, Harris reaffirmed Washington’s continued support for Iraq’s sovereignty, counterterrorism efforts and security cooperation, as well as stronger economic and trade relations between the two countries
