pledged $10 million from his personal funds to support the Sayyida Zaynab Shrine and the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, his media office announced on Wednesday.
The statement said al-Zaidi visited the Sayyida Zaynab Shrine alongside Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, where he performed prayers and religious rituals before touring the site. He allocated $5 million to address the shrine’s needs.
A further $5 million was designated for the Umayyad Mosque. During his visit, al-Zaidi toured the mosque’s historic landmarks and recorded a message in the visitors’ book near the Treasury Dome in the mosque’s courtyard.
