The Iraqi Council of Representatives conducted the first reading of three bills on Monday during its 16th session, chaired by Parliament Speaker Haibat Al-Halbousi and attended by 226 lawmakers.
The bills included legislation concerning Iraq’s accession to the Statute of the Organization for Women Development among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The legislation seeks to strengthen women’s capabilities and expand their participation in political, social and economic fields.
Parliament also held the first reading of a proposed amendment to Agricultural Materials Trading Law No. 46 of 2012. The amendment focuses on regulating the trade of agricultural products, protecting local production, ensuring compliance with required standards, and defining related violations and penalties.
On the economic front, lawmakers discussed the proposed Public-Private Partnership Law, which aims to increase the private sector’s role in economic development, expand state revenues and help address fiscal deficit challenges, while establishing a legal framework governing cooperation between the public and private sectors.
