Iraq’s Ambassador to Jordan, Omar Al-Barzanji, on Thursday outlined the circumstances of a dispute inside the Iraqi Embassy’s consular section involving an Iraqi woman and several staff members, which escalated and prompted the authorities to call the police.

In a statement, Al-Barzanji explained that the incident occurred while the woman was visiting the consular department to complete her transactions. He said available information indicated that offensive remarks had allegedly been directed at several employees, leading to an escalation of tensions and the involvement of the police.

The ambassador said the clarification followed social media posts containing allegations concerning the embassy and its leadership. He noted that he had previously refrained from responding to similar publications to avoid media disputes that could affect diplomatic work, but considered the latest claims to require an explanation of the circumstances.

Al-Barzanji said he received a message on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from Dr. Raad Al-Zaidi, the woman’s father. In the message, Al-Zaidi denied that the ambassador or consul had insulted his family and rejected any association between his family and the posts circulating online about the incident.

The father also stated that he had not authorized anyone to speak or publish statements on behalf of his family, while reserving the right to file a complaint against several embassy employees. He characterized the incident as a misunderstanding between his daughter and members of the consular staff.

The ambassador called for a comprehensive assessment of the incident, taking into account the conduct of all parties and the circumstances that preceded the police intervention. He stressed that the case should not be judged solely on the basis of one account.

Al-Barzanji reaffirmed that treating citizens respectfully and professionally is a fundamental obligation of diplomatic mission employees. He stressed that any proven misconduct must be addressed in accordance with the law, while safeguarding employees’ right to defend themselves and citizens’ right to submit complaints and grievances through official channels.
