Iraqi President Nizar Amedi has reiterated Iraq’s support for the ongoing peace process in Türkiye, stressing the importance of sustained dialogue and mutual understanding to resolve outstanding issues and strengthen regional security and stability.
In a statement, the Iraqi Presidency said Amedi received Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his accompanying delegation at Baghdad Palace on Saturday. The meeting focused on bilateral relations and ways to expand cooperation across various sectors in the mutual interests of both countries and their peoples.
The discussions also covered the latest regional developments and the challenges facing the region. Amedi underscored the need for continued consultation and coordination between Baghdad and Ankara, alongside intensified joint efforts to support peace initiatives and contain regional tensions.
Amedi noted that Baghdad’s hosting of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation provides an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation among Islamic countries, particularly amid rapid political changes and overlapping regional crises. He emphasised the need for coordinated action to address these challenges, protect the interests of regional populations and prevent further escalation of conflicts.
The Iraqi president once again affirmed Baghdad’s backing for Türkiye’s peace process, calling for continued efforts to consolidate stability and pursue peaceful solutions through dialogue and mutual understanding.
For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed Ankara’s commitment to strengthening ties with Baghdad and expanding bilateral cooperation. He also highlighted the importance of enhancing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s role in addressing challenges facing its member states and promoting greater solidarity and integration among them.
