Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held talks in Baghdad with Robert Malley, president of the International Crisis Group and a former US negotiator on Iran’s nuclear program, to examine regional developments amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran and the potential scenarios in the coming days.
According to a statement from Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting addressed the International Crisis Group’s activities and its role in providing research and analysis on global crises and emerging challenges.
Hussein also reviewed Iraq’s security and military situation, particularly following the departure of international coalition forces. Discussions covered Iraq’s regional role, Baghdad’s efforts to encourage dialogue and de-escalation, and the Iraqi initiative presented during the Group of Eight meeting.
The statement noted that both sides exchanged views on recent regional developments, focusing on the risks associated with continued US-Iran tensions and the possibility of the confrontation spreading to other parts of the region.
