The Dhi Qar Criminal Court has sentenced three employees of the provincial administration to prison terms ranging from six to eight years after convicting them of accepting a 10 million Iraqi dinar bribe in return for facilitating the release of a contractor’s financial dues.
A security source said the three defendants were arrested in the act, identifying one of them as Hazem Al-Saeedi, head of project accounts at the governorate’s administration.
The source added that Al-Saeedi received the longest sentence of eight years, while the other two employees were sentenced to six and seven years in prison.
The rulings were issued under Resolution No. 160 of 1983, introduced by Iraq’s now-dissolved Revolutionary Command Council.
