In a major strategic initiative to unify its armed forces, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs officially announced the complete merger of Units 70 and 80 into a single structure under its direct authority.
The ministry stated that this comprehensive reform restructures military divisions and regional commands to align with modern defense standards, marking a transition from partisan control to a professional defense institution.
Highlighting the support of the U.S.-led International Coalition, the statement referenced ongoing reform efforts since 2014 aimed at streamlining command, training, and logistics, successfully bridging the historical division between the region's main political parties.
