Iraq’s Ministry of Interior announced the successful completion of a joint security operation with Emirati authorities that resulted in the seizure of 200,000 Captagon pills and the arrest of suspects involved in the case in the UAE, based on intelligence provided by Iraqi security agencies.
In a statement, the ministry said the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances worked alongside the UAE’s National Anti-Narcotics Authority as part of joint efforts to combat cross-border drug trafficking and dismantle criminal networks.
The operation followed the collection, verification and exchange of intelligence between the two countries’ specialized agencies. This cooperation enabled the development and implementation of a coordinated security plan, leading to the seizure of the shipment and the arrest of those implicated.
The ministry emphasized that the operation highlights the effectiveness of international security cooperation in pursuing drug trafficking networks. It also underscored the importance of intelligence sharing and proactive action in uncovering illicit activities and disrupting trafficking routes before criminal plans can be carried out.
