Iraqi lawmaker Zuhair Shaheed Abdullah Al-Fatlawi announced on Thursday that the Federal Commission of Integrity had carried out an arrest warrant against Sinan Mohammed Hanash Mahmoud, the former deputy director of Trebil Customs, under the “Where Did You Get This From?” anti-corruption campaign. He noted that a court ruling against the defendant dates back to 2023.
Al-Fatlawi said the alleged unexplained wealth attributed to the defendant amounted to IQD 37,882,884,000, in addition to several real estate holdings. He added that the defendant’s son owns a private hospital, a commercial building and other properties abroad, and is a partner in a commercial company. The son also reportedly holds deposits worth IQD 9 billion at Al-Ittihad and Housing banks in Jordan.
Separately, the Rusafa Investigative Court, which specializes in integrity and money laundering cases, announced the recovery of IQD 35 billion in connection with financial and administrative corruption cases.
In a statement issued by the Supreme Judicial Council, the presiding judge said the funds were recovered following judicial procedures and detailed investigations. He stressed that legal measures would continue against individuals involved in unlawful activities that undermine public funds.
