Iraq’s Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday that a security operation in the country’s territorial waters resulted in the arrest of three foreign nationals suspected of involvement in international drug trafficking and the recovery of 30 kilograms of narcotics.

The ministry said the operation followed two days of intelligence surveillance and was conducted in coordination with the General Directorate for Drug Affairs, the Naval Command and Naval Intelligence. An armed confrontation took place at sea, leaving one of the suspects injured.

According to the statement, the suspects attempted to dispose of the drugs by throwing them into the water to conceal the evidence. However, security personnel managed to locate and recover the substances. The ministry reaffirmed its determination to combat smuggling networks and pursue drug traffickers across both land and maritime routes.
