Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Al-Zaidi on Tuesday directed the country’s military forces to elevate combat readiness to the highest possible level as part of efforts to strengthen national defense capabilities and modernize the military establishment.

According to a statement from his office, the directive was issued during a meeting chaired by Al-Zaidi and attended by the director of the Commander-in-Chief’s office, the Deputy Minister of Planning, several advisers, and military commanders. The meeting reviewed the armed forces’ preparedness and requirements for further development.

Discussions included an assessment of the capabilities of the Iraqi Air Force, Navy, air defense units, and Army Aviation, alongside their needs for equipment, resources, and modern technology.

Al-Zaidi stressed that contemporary military strength depends not only on conventional weapons but also on advanced capabilities, including unmanned aerial vehicles, air defense systems, and modern technological solutions.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supplying the resources needed to modernize the armed forces and improve their operational effectiveness, ensuring the protection of Iraq’s security, sovereignty, airspace, territorial waters, and land.
