Iraqi Interior Minister Yasser Abdul-Maliki has directed the promotion of officers from lieutenant colonel to colonel, and from colonel to brigadier general, upon completion of the legally required service periods, without making promotion conditional on holding a specific position.

The minister expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister, in his capacity as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, for supporting the initiative, which aims to ensure fairness and protect officers’ legal rights and entitlements.

He emphasized that granting promotions when they become due strengthens fairness and professionalism, promotes career stability within the security institution, and reduces the need for personal connections or mediation to obtain professional entitlements.
