An Iraqi Air Force official on Friday dismissed reports circulating about the crash of an F-16 fighter jet in the Hatra area of Nineveh province, confirming that the claims were untrue.
The official said all aircraft involved in the scheduled flights successfully completed their missions and returned safely to their military bases, stressing that no fighter jet had crashed as a result of a technical malfunction.
He added that social media reports claiming that an F-16 had crashed were inaccurate and had no factual basis.
The reports circulated as Iraqi forces carried out aerial flights to mark “Sovereignty Day,” coinciding with the withdrawal of international coalition forces from Iraq.
