Iraq’s Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that security forces had detained 74 people of various nationalities for attempting to cross the country’s international borders illegally during September, as part of continued efforts to strengthen border security and prevent unauthorized crossings.
Major General Miqdad Miri, head of the ministry’s Relations and Media Department, said border forces maintain round-the-clock surveillance and monitoring operations, alongside ongoing fortification works and the construction of a concrete barrier in the northern Rabi’a area, extending toward Fishkhabur near the intersection of the Iraqi, Syrian and Turkish borders.
Miri stressed that the measures form part of an integrated security strategy aimed at curbing infiltration attempts and illegal activities. The strategy combines field deployments, intelligence operations and technical security measures to reinforce border protection, safeguard Iraq’s sovereignty and preserve its territorial integrity.
