Iraq’s Security Media Cell announced on Saturday that travelers stranded at the Shalamcheh and Al-Shib border crossings would be allowed to enter and exit after movement through the two crossings had been halted.
Security Media Cell chief Lieutenant General Saad Maan said the decision was issued under the direction of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, covering travelers stranded on both sides of the crossings.
The move follows appeals from Iraqi families who urged authorities to reopen the border gates after becoming stranded on the Iranian side amid difficult conditions and high temperatures. Reports also indicated that some patients were among those stuck at the crossings.
Travelers stranded at Shalamcheh and Al-Shib called on the government to accelerate crossing procedures and facilitate their return to Iraq, particularly as families continue to face difficult conditions at the border.
