Security authorities in Baghdad have prepared a series of measures to secure demonstrations expected to take place at Tahrir Square on Sunday, October 25. The measures include prohibiting motorcycles and tuk-tuks from using roads leading to the square, while keeping traffic routes open unless closures become necessary.

A security source said the plan is intended to protect demonstrators and preserve public and private property. It also предусматри thorough inspections of individuals approaching the square, with any road closures requiring a clear security necessity and approval from senior officials.

The ban on motorcycles of all types and tuk-tuks is set to begin at midnight on Saturday as part of preparations for the anticipated rallies.

The security arrangements come as activists and protest coordination groups call for large demonstrations in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces to mark the seventh anniversary of the October 2019 protest movement. Organizers are demanding political reforms, stronger anti-corruption measures, and accountability for those responsible for the deaths of protesters.

Meanwhile, several printing shops and commercial establishments near Tahrir Square temporarily suspended operations on Saturday after their owners received security notices instructing them to remain closed until the demonstrations end.

The October protest movement began on October 1, 2019, before expanding significantly on October 25. The unrest resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries, alongside reported cases of arrests, abductions, and assassinations targeting activists and demonstrators.
