Iraqi security forces rescued family members held hostage inside their home by a suspected drug trafficker in the Nahrawan area of eastern Baghdad during an operation to arrest him.

Iraq’s Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the suspect detained his relatives and opened fire on the security unit assigned to apprehend him, triggering an armed confrontation at the scene.

The ministry confirmed that the family was safely freed. However, the clash left one member of the Federal Police Command injured, who was subsequently transported to hospital for medical treatment.
