Iraqi Prime Minister’s Adviser Qasim Al-Araji said on Friday that no specific timeframe has been set for completing the committee’s work to bring weapons under state control, rejecting reports that a final deadline had been established.

Al-Araji said the committee, operating under the Prime Minister’s supervision, will continue its work until the weapons-control process is completed. He stressed that illegal possession of weapons will be subject to legal measures once the process is finalized.

The statement comes as September 30 approaches, a date linked to the conclusion of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq, amid differing positions over whether the date should be connected to the issue of weapons held by armed factions.
