US President Donald Trump said on Friday that significant changes concerning Iran were expected very soon, expressing confidence that the war would end in the near future and lead to lower gasoline prices.
Addressing reporters, Trump stressed that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a key US objective, saying the conflict would eventually come to an end. He accused Tehran of pursuing hostile policies for years and causing the deaths of many Americans, while insisting that the United States was not responsible for starting the war.
Trump added that Washington wants to ensure Iran remains without nuclear weapons, emphasizing the importance of securing firm guarantees that Tehran will never develop or obtain such capabilities.
Meanwhile, Israel's Maariv newspaper reported on Friday that Israeli security officials had identified signs of extensive US military preparations across the region, raising concerns about a possible strike against Iran ahead of the US midterm elections.
The report said Israel is preparing for the possibility of another military confrontation with Tehran amid growing indications of expanded American military activity in the region.
Separately, Democratic US Senator Chris Murphy revealed on Thursday that he and several fellow senators had been briefed on potential military strike scenarios involving Iran, describing the proposed plans as "insane."
