The US military announced on Sunday that Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), visited the Strait of Hormuz to review operational conditions and developments in the strategic maritime passage.

CENTCOM said Cooper flew over the strait aboard a US Army helicopter to assess the current situation. During the visit, he reiterated Washington’s commitment to supporting its Gulf partners and safeguarding freedom of navigation through the international waterway.

Cooper also met with US service members involved in mine-clearance operations in the strait, highlighting the importance of their efforts in supporting maritime security.

He added that approximately 3,000 commercial vessels had crossed the Strait of Hormuz over the past six months with support from US Central Command forces.
