Iraq’s Acting Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Sarwa Abdul Wahed, has denied reports that financial grants for journalists, artists, writers and intellectuals have been cancelled, confirming that efforts are underway to secure the funds required for their payment.

Abdul Wahed said financial pressures and a shortage of liquidity, alongside the impact of domestic and regional developments, have affected government spending. She stressed that the ministry is coordinating with the relevant authorities to secure the necessary allocations and expedite the disbursement of the grants.

The acting minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s media and cultural communities, describing assistance to journalists, artists and intellectuals as a national responsibility and pledging continued efforts to safeguard their financial rights.
