Iraq’s Veterinary Department has returned a shipment of Brazilian frozen chicken cuts to Jordan through the Trebil border crossing after determining that it failed to comply with Iraqi import standards regarding the permitted production and shelf-life period.

Director General Omar Raad Al-Hayali said the 19-ton shipment exceeded the allowable production-period limit, prompting authorities to reject and return it under Article 68 of Customs Law No. 23 of 1984, which governs procedures for non-compliant imports.

He added that the decision was issued by a joint committee representing the Trebil border administration, veterinary quarantine, customs, health inspection authorities, and border police after confirming that the shipment did not meet Iraq’s import requirements.
