Iraq’s Security Media Cell chief, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, announced on Saturday that authorities registered 8,731 firearms over the past week as part of a nationwide campaign to regulate weapons ownership and place all arms under state control.

Maan stated that the Permanent National Committee for Weapons Regulation and State Control, operating under the Interior Ministry’s Police Affairs Agency, continues to register firearms in accordance with established legal procedures. He said the initiative is part of government efforts to reinforce the rule of law and strengthen security and stability.

He also revealed that security operations and proactive enforcement measures have resulted in the seizure of 1,191,441 weapons, along with 11,191,363 rounds of various types of ammunition, 201,809 rockets and grenades, and 18,180 explosive materials.

Maan stressed that these figures reflect ongoing efforts to curb the spread of unlicensed weapons and eliminate armed activity outside official state institutions. He added that security forces will continue carrying out their duties, while urging citizens to cooperate with relevant authorities to protect public safety and maintain stability across the country.
