Iraq is preparing to strengthen security and regulatory measures nationwide to pursue oil smuggling networks and safeguard the country’s natural resources, Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs Mohsen Al-Mandalawi said on Monday.

Al-Mandalawi stressed that protecting Iraq’s oil wealth is a national duty that requires coordinated action among relevant authorities and strict enforcement of the law. He also called for holding those responsible for damaging the national economy accountable and reinforcing transparency and oversight in the management of oil resources.

He urged concerned institutions to intensify monitoring and inspections of oil transportation, storage, and marketing activities, while carefully identifying the routes involved to help uncover smuggling operations and restrict their sources.

Al-Mandalawi also highlighted the importance of cooperation among relevant parliamentary committees, security and oversight bodies, and government ministries to strengthen control over national resources and prevent their exploitation for unlawful gains.
