Iraq and Turkey have agreed to initiate the gradual handover of the Bashiqa-Zilkan camp to the Iraqi federal government, according to an announcement by the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on Sunday.
In a statement, the office said the joint higher committee between the two countries held a meeting to address bilateral issues, resulting in agreements covering three main areas.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the agreement reached by their leaders on September 23, 2026, and to supporting Iraq's efforts to establish full state authority in Sinjar and end the presence of armed groups.
The Turkish side also pledged to begin the necessary measures to transfer the camp to the Iraqi federal government in phases.
Furthermore, the two countries agreed to reactivate the Joint Security Coordination Committee to jointly oversee and monitor the implementation of measures aimed at ending the presence of armed groups in Sinjar.
