Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported on Thursday evening that the IRGC Navy targeted an American "Saildrone Explorer" unmanned surface vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
The 7-meter autonomous craft is designed for long-duration ocean endurance and is fitted with sensors, cameras, and communications gear for intelligence gathering and maritime surveillance. Such US Navy vessels have previously been operated by the 5th Fleet's Bahrain-based Task Force 59, which focuses on integrating unmanned systems and artificial intelligence into regional maritime operations.
