Qatar Museums is set to present a major new exhibition at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, titled “What Lingers in the Artist’s Mind: Experiments and Legacies of the Baghdad Modern Art Group.” The exhibition examines the group’s artistic journey and its role in shaping modern art in Iraq and the wider Arab world.
Running from October 25, 2026, to February 6, 2027, the exhibition will explore key chapters in the group’s history while examining the enduring influence of its artistic experiments.
The show will draw from Mathaf’s extensive collection, bringing together paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, archival documents, and newly developed research. The works offer a broader look at one of the region’s influential modern art movements and trace its impact across successive generations of Iraqi and Arab artists.
