Iraqi President Nizar Amedi on Monday underlined the importance of developing individual sports and providing talented athletes with the necessary support and resources to help them achieve further success at international competitions.
In a statement, the Presidency said Amedi received Iraqi Paralympic champion Najla Imad and praised her outstanding achievements, which have contributed to strengthening Iraq’s presence on the international sporting stage.
Amedi commended Imad’s remarkable journey, noting that she lost three limbs in a terrorist bombing in 2008 but managed to overcome the tragedy and turn her experience into motivation for success, eventually becoming one of Iraq’s prominent athletes.
The president said her accomplishments extend beyond the medals she has earned, representing determination, resilience and the ability of Iraqis to overcome even the most difficult circumstances.
He also praised Iraqi athletes, particularly Paralympic champions, for their continued achievements and efforts to raise Iraq’s name in international competitions, stressing the importance of providing them with adequate care and support.
Amedi called for greater attention to individual sports, along with improved training facilities and support programs for talented athletes, enabling them to develop their skills and compete effectively at international events. He added that investing in sport means investing in the abilities and potential of Iraqi youth.
Najla Imad, meanwhile, expressed her appreciation to the president for his attention to and support for athletes, reaffirming her commitment to pursuing further achievements and representing Iraq on the international stage.
