Algeria announced today that it has ended diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, saying the decision followed the failure of all efforts aimed at preserving bilateral ties.
The Algerian Foreign Ministry said the move was prompted by what it described as continued provocative and hostile actions by the UAE. It stressed that Algiers had exercised restraint and issued repeated warnings about the possible consequences of such conduct.
According to the ministry, the actions had crossed what Algeria considered acceptable limits within relations between two sovereign states, leaving the government with no option but to take a decisive step.
The decision follows a period of growing political tensions between Algeria and the UAE, which intensified after Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune made sharp remarks in July criticizing what he referred to as an “Arab statelet.” He accused it of contributing to bloodshed wherever it became involved and said Algeria shared common positions with Egypt and Saudi Arabia on several regional issues.
