The World Health Organization has expanded its list of factors linked to cognitive decline and dementia, adding seven new risk factors to its updated guidance based on the latest scientific evidence.
The newly added factors include stroke, traumatic brain injuries, vision impairment, sleep disorders, HIV, air pollution, and hormone therapy during menopause.
The update is part of the WHO’s broader efforts to strengthen dementia prevention and reduce modifiable risk factors, while highlighting the importance of addressing health and environmental issues at an early stage to help protect cognitive function.
