The United States on Saturday extended its congratulations to the Iraqi people on National Day, reaffirming its commitment to advancing the bilateral partnership and supporting Iraq’s sovereignty and stability.

In a statement marking Iraq’s National Day on October 3, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the relationship between Washington and Baghdad is built on longstanding historical ties, while praising the Iraqi people and their achievements.

Rubio referred to Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi’s visit to Washington in July and his meeting with US President Donald Trump, saying the visit underscored the strength of relations between the two countries and their shared efforts to build a stronger and more prosperous future.

He noted that the economic partnerships announced during the visit highlighted opportunities for expanding trade and investment cooperation between Iraqi and US companies.

Rubio also welcomed Iraq’s continued efforts to reinforce its sovereignty and contribute to strengthening security and stability in the Middle East.

Iraq marks its National Day on October 3 each year, with the occasion observed as an official public holiday nationwide.
