US President Donald Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a phone call on Sunday to halt Ukrainian strikes against Russian oil refineries, the Financial Times reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The sources said Trump’s appeal was linked to concerns that continued attacks on Russian energy facilities could further strain global diesel supplies and contribute to higher fuel prices worldwide.

Meanwhile, the average diesel price in the United States surpassed $6.50 per gallon for the first time, reaching $6.505, according to figures from the American Automobile Association (AAA).

Bloomberg reported that diesel prices have accelerated significantly this month, with the overall increase exceeding 87 cents per gallon. The sustained rise has pushed prices above the previous record set in 2022.

Trump said last week that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to refrain from attacking energy infrastructure in each other’s territories, although he did not provide further details about the arrangement.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Ukraine had agreed to stop targeting Russian energy facilities and that Russia had made the same commitment. He added that the Russia-Ukraine war was responsible for most of the global increase in diesel prices, rather than Iran.
