US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal for a seven-day halt to the fighting, put forward by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.

The officials said Trump told his aides that he expects US strikes on Iran to resume following the US midterm elections in November. They added that Trump remains doubtful that Tehran will comply with Washington’s demands.

On the naval blockade, the officials said US efforts to secure the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz have eased the immediate pressure to reach an agreement. The Trump administration has also informed Iran and mediators that the president does not intend to lift the blockade imposed on Iranian ports, according to the officials.
