The Syrian Petroleum Company began preparations on Friday to transport the first gasoline shipments destined for Iraq, with the fuel moving from Syrian ports toward the border crossings between the two countries.
Safwan Sheikh Ahmed, director of institutional communications at the company, said three tankers carrying petroleum products had arrived at Syrian ports. He noted that the first tanker had completed unloading around 32,000 tons of gasoline, while the remaining two were preparing to begin unloading.
Tanker-loading operations started on September 22, with two convoys prepared so far. The first consisted of 10 tankers, while the second included 55, with transportation to Iraq set to continue through the border crossings.
The ports and technical teams are prepared to raise loading capacity to 150 tankers per day once the remaining vehicles arrive, allowing the shipments to be transported across the border.
The fuel deliveries come as Baghdad and several Iraqi provinces continue to face gasoline supply shortages, following a temporary easing of the crisis last month, while authorities work to address the shortfall and secure additional fuel supplies
