Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina has taken over the top spot in the latest WTA rankings after winning the US Open, becoming the first Kazakh player in history to reach world No. 1.
Rybakina secured the milestone by defeating Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in the tournament final, ending her opponent’s 99-week run at the top of the rankings and preventing her from completing a third consecutive US Open title.
Sabalenka slipped to second, with American Jessica Pegula moving into third and compatriot Coco Gauff remaining fourth. Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and Czech player Linda Noskova retained fifth and sixth, while Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina climbed to seventh.
Marta Kostyuk also broke into the women’s top 10 for the first time, rising to 10th. China’s Zheng Qinwen made the biggest move of the week, jumping 69 places to 52nd after reaching the US Open quarter-finals.
In the men’s rankings, Germany’s Alexander Zverev narrowed the gap on world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who remained at the top despite missing the US Open because of injury. Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz held on to third place.
American Ben Shelton climbed five spots to fourth after reaching his first Grand Slam final, while Russia’s Daniil Medvedev moved up to sixth and American Frances Tiafoe rose four places to eighth.
Serbian star Novak Djokovic suffered the biggest setback among the leading players, dropping seven positions to 12th. It marks his first absence from the men’s top 10 in more than eight years.
