The Iraqi government announced Thursday that a new shipment of US dollar banknotes has arrived in Iraq as part of ongoing understandings with Washington aimed at securing the country’s foreign-currency needs.
Government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi said a new cash dollar shipment arrived in Iraq on Wednesday, explaining that the delivery is part of arrangements designed to maintain the flow of foreign currency and meet demand in accordance with approved policies.
He said the understandings with the United States provide for the continued shipment of cash dollars to Iraq to support legitimate foreign-currency requirements.
Al-Aboudi noted that the arrangements coincide with Iraqi measures to strengthen oversight of dollar distribution, regulate its use and curb misuse, while also expanding electronic payment systems and supporting the country’s gradual transition toward a digital economy.
