A high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government arrived in Baghdad on Sunday to resume negotiations with federal authorities over the region’s financial allocations and entitlements under the draft 2027 federal budget law.
In a statement, the KRG’s Department of Media and Information said the delegation will hold a series of meetings with relevant federal government officials to discuss its comments and reservations regarding the draft legislation, while seeking guarantees for the constitutional rights of Kurdistan’s citizens and the payment of salaries and financial dues owed to employees, retirees and other eligible groups.
The Ministry of Finance previously submitted the 2027 budget draft to the Ministerial Council for the Economy on September 27, after completing its preparation. The council subsequently approved the proposal and forwarded it to the Council of Ministers.
Meanwhile, on October 4, the Parliamentary Finance Committee decided to summon Finance Minister Falih Sari to discuss the budget’s key priorities and the expected date of its submission to Parliament. The committee also voiced objections over not having been given prior access to the draft law and its provisions.
