The Karbala Criminal Court has sentenced a man to three years in prison after convicting him of impersonating a brigadier general in the Popular Mobilization Forces and using the false identity to defraud citizens.
According to a statement issued by the Supreme Judicial Council’s media office, the defendant collected money from citizens by promising to secure government jobs for them through fraudulent claims.
The statement noted that authorities found a rifle, a pistol, electronic payment cards and security force insignia in his possession, as well as forged identification documents and badges. A bag containing administrative applications and cash was also seized.
The Supreme Judicial Council said the ruling was issued under Article 1/1 and 2 of Resolution No. 160 of 1983, with reference to Article 132/3 of the Penal Code.
