Iraq’s Ministry of Trade has pledged to strengthen market surveillance and prevent traders from using the dollar exchange rate adjustment as justification for unjustified increases in essential commodity prices, reaffirming its commitment to food security and protecting consumers’ purchasing power.

Ministry adviser Mohammed Hannoun said monitoring efforts would continue in coordination with relevant authorities, alongside measures to maintain supplies of food ration items and flour and monitor strategic food stocks. The ministry also warned that legal action would be taken against traders involved in violations or monopolistic practices to help stabilize prices and protect consumers.
