Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council reported 183 court cases involving human trafficking crimes across the country’s appellate courts in August, according to official statistics.

The Basra Court of Appeal recorded the highest number with 67 cases, followed by Baghdad/Karkh with 40 and Diyala with 12. No human trafficking cases were registered in the appellate courts of Nineveh, Babil, Dhi Qar, or Muthanna.

Meanwhile, 307 cases involving violations of Iraq’s Foreigners’ Residency Law No. 76 of 2017 were recorded. Baghdad/Rusafa accounted for the largest share with 204 cases, followed by Baghdad/Karkh with 35 and Wasit with 26. No cases related to residency law violations were recorded in Basra, Nineveh, Babil, Dhi Qar, Anbar, Maysan, Muthanna, or Karbala.

The statistics also documented 10 suicide cases during August, including five in Nineveh, two in Diyala, and one each in Rusafa, Najaf, and Qadisiyah.
