Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi is expected to embark on a Gulf tour next Wednesday, beginning with a visit to Saudi Arabia before travelling to Kuwait, as Baghdad seeks to strengthen regional ties and discuss issues of mutual concern.

A well-informed government source said the planned meetings would address joint security and economic issues, the repercussions of regional developments on stability, and opportunities to expand coordination between Iraq and Gulf states on a range of shared matters.

The source added that Al-Zaidi would reiterate Iraq’s opposition to the use of its territory as a launchpad for attacks against Gulf countries or other states in the region. The government is also expected to pledge accountability for any parties found responsible for cross-border operations.

The tour follows the cancellation of an earlier visit to Riyadh scheduled for July, amid escalating security developments across the region.

Iraqi-Gulf relations have remained cautious since regional military operations began in February 2026, with several countries accusing armed factions of using Iraqi territory to launch drone attacks targeting regional economic interests.
