Local authorities in Basra and Karbala have finalized technical blueprints and zoning procedures for 195,000 residential land plots, preparing for free allocation to qualifying citizens under the national "Watan" housing program introduced by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi.
Basra Governor Asad Al-Eidani confirmed that documentation for 135,000 plots has been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office, reiterating that any Iraqi citizen without prior home or property ownership is eligible to apply. Concurrently, Karbala Governor Nasif Jassim announced the completion of 60,000 plots, emphasizing the program’s dual benefits in tackling housing shortages and stimulating job creation.
The official portal for online registration will launch in early October for all eligible families. This milestone forms part of an initial nationwide rollout of over 216,000 prepared plots across 15 governorates, advancing toward a broader government target of delivering one million free residential land units.
