The Iraqi government announced on Saturday that it had reached an understanding with the United States to continue the delivery of cash dollar shipments to Iraq, with a new shipment expected in the coming days.
Government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi said the understanding was reached during Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi’s visit to the United States, adding that the shipments would help meet legitimate demand for foreign currency in Iraq.
He said the arrangement comes amid measures taken by Baghdad to strengthen oversight of dollar distribution and regulate its use, while reducing instances of foreign-currency misuse.
Al-Aboudi also highlighted Iraq’s continued expansion of electronic payment methods as part of the country’s gradual move toward a digital economy
