Iraq’s Agriculture Minister, Abdul Rahim Jassim Al-Shammari, announced on Sunday that wheat seed distribution to farmers will begin on Monday, October 12, across all Iraqi provinces as part of the 2026–2027 winter agricultural plan.
The announcement came during the ninth meeting of the National Seed Council, chaired by Al-Shammari, where officials reviewed preparations for the winter farming season and discussed mechanisms for supplying subsidized seeds and ensuring their timely delivery to farmers.
The ministry said the meeting examined a scheme offering a 70% subsidy on seed prices, in line with a decision adopted by the Council of Ministers during its 22nd session. Participants also discussed measures to simplify distribution procedures and accelerate supply operations to meet the requirements of the planting season.
The meeting further addressed proposals aimed at developing agricultural activities and improving services in the sector. Al-Shammari praised the government’s approval of the winter agricultural plan, the expansion of cultivated areas covered by the scheme, and the support allocated for seeds and pesticides.
The wheat seed distribution campaign is scheduled to commence on Monday, October 12, reaching farmers throughout Iraq.
