Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi has reaffirmed the Iraqi government's commitment to expanding associated gas investment and making better use of the country's energy resources, with the aim of ending gas imports in the coming years.

A statement from the Prime Minister's Office said Al-Zaidi met on Sunday with Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of French energy company TotalEnergies, and Andy O’Brien, an executive at ConocoPhillips, alongside delegations from both companies.

The meeting addressed plans to increase oil and associated gas production at the Bin Omar field in Basra province, including setting specific timelines for boosting output. Discussions also covered measures to expand production at other oil fields.

Al-Zaidi highlighted Iraq's substantial potential in the associated gas sector, noting that the government's strategy focuses on fully utilizing domestic gas resources and permanently ending imports within the next few years.

Meanwhile, the two company executives expressed their commitment to stepping up efforts and meeting established deadlines to increase production and support the implementation of the planned projects.
