Iraq and Türkiye have begun discussions in Ankara on launching negotiations for a framework agreement aimed at expanding and regulating bilateral cooperation in the oil, gas and energy sectors.

Iraqi Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi led the Iraqi delegation at the expanded meeting, while the Turkish side was headed by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.

The talks focused on proposals to develop oil and gas infrastructure, strengthen cooperation in the petrochemical industry, and expand bilateral trade in oil, gas and energy. The two sides also discussed mechanisms for improving coordination and establishing joint working frameworks that serve their mutual interests.

The meeting represents an initial step toward drafting the framework agreement between Baghdad and Ankara and laying the groundwork for broader cooperation across the oil, gas and energy sectors.

The Iraqi delegation included Deputy Oil Minister for Extraction Affairs Naseer Aziz Jabbar, along with directors general from oil marketing, northern oil, oil projects and pipelines companies, as well as officials from the economic, legal, contracts and petroleum licensing departments.
